The Ashton College U16A Girls Hockey Team
Ashton’s U16A and 1st Girls hockey teams attended the Maties Schools Hockey Camp held at the Stellenbosch University from 20 – 24 March 2011.
The days were filled with intense skills training, set work training, team building and matches played against schools from all over South Africa and Zimbabwe. The evenings were fun filled and full of entertainment, and the girls got a taste of the excitement of a Rugby Varsity Cup game.
Each and every one of the girls gained a new love and respect for the game of hockey during the camp as they were fortunate enough to be coached by some of SA’s best players and coaches.
There was definitely a remarkable improvement in every single girl’s performance by the end of the week. The Ashton U16A team did exceptionally well and came third in their age group pool. The following girls were awarded most promising player of the week; Megan Schulze, Carlea vd Linde, Samantha Schwikkard, Shannon Proctor and Samantha Brown.
On behalf of all the girls that went on tour a big thankyou to the very supportive parents of Ashton, CEO Mr A Buys and Head of Senior College Mr J Erasmus for the opportunity afforded to the girls for the experience.
