Home Organic Exhibits Green Conscience at Durban’s Green Hub
Home Organic was selected as an exhibitor to showcase its fantastic organic vegetable and herb garden units at Durban’s new Green Hub. This is part of a Green Festival being held alongside the COP17 Climate Change Conference from November 30 to December 9. Home Organic’s exhibition is part of the Hub’s Whole Food Market which displays the wares of 45 local vendors who sell organic, unique and homemade crafts and food.
The Green Hub exhibition is an opportunity to showcase Durban’s foodie and craft scene to locals and 15,000 COP17 visitors. Whole Food Market organiser Darryl Hoffman said, “We hope to provide a platform for these local traders, offering them more exposure and opportunities to further their business.”
Home Organic owners Andrew and Karen Donkin are very excited about their involvement at the Green Hub saying the scheme is long overdue. Andrew said, “We are delighted to be participating in this meaningful initiative which highlights the importance of changing our habits and lifestyle choices to reduce the impact we have on our environment. People have realised that in their own individual capacities they too can make a difference and that it’s not just up to the big companies and government to make the change.”
Andrew’s wife Karen shared his sentiments saying that to make a difference; the first step is to start at home. “Our products eliminate the use of pesticides and chemicals. Every Drop Counts, a rainwater harvesting product, reduces water bills by harvesting rainwater for garden irrigation,” she said.
Going green can be daunting but Home Organic’s simple vegetable and herb garden kits make it easy, fun and affordable for urban dwellers to start their own vegetable garden. They offer a wide range of veggie garden kits which are constructed to be neat, practical and manageable. The system is designed for people living in residential suburbs who have neither the time nor the ‘green fingers’ to start a veggie patch. Besides their significant contribution to greening through their products, Andrew and Karen have also lessened their own carbon footprint by quitting the corporate world to start their flourishing ‘green’ business.
The Green Hub is situated at Blue Lagoon on the south bank of the uMngeni Estuary and will also feature a daily community market, a riverside beer garden and a host of sporting events in the Durban Green Corridor.
For more information please visit Andrew and Karen at their stand at the Green Hub on weekdays from 4pm to 7:30pm and weekends from 10am to 7:30pm.
